
Ken Aston was head referee at the 1966 World Cup championship. On the way home he had a brainstorm as his car came to a stop: He decided to apply traffic light colors to soccer. By the time the 1970 World Cup came around, each player knew what was coming when the referee stood in front of him with a yellow or red card.

German soccer fans love the fast food classic “red-and-white fries” (with ketchup and mayonnaise). Could that be the reason 25 percent of soccer club jerseys in the first to third leagues are red and white?
